How We Began
SR Seminars grew out of Rob Rushin and Sandra Bain Cushman's work with and for an internationally known group of performing musicians. In the fall of 2004 a nine-month experiment began in Atlanta, Georgia, bringing work that was primarily focused on enhancing performance for artists and musicians - by focusing on their primary instrument, themselves - to a group that included non-musicians and significant others. The result was SR Seminars. We take work previously associated with performing musicians and bring it to you in your workplace.
Why Sisyphus?
Although Sisyphus is a relatively minor character in Greek mythology, he is one of the most widely known in our culture. Most of us know his tragic tale, condemned by the gods to an eternity of struggle, moving a boulder to the mountaintop only to have it tumble back to the bottom again. This is a myth - a story of drudgery and frustration - that we can all relate to, pushing the same rock up the same mountain day in and day out. "What is my rock?" you may ask. Surely we feel the strain and sense the wasted energy in our work lives; we often become frustrated by resistance and repetition that stifle our creativity.

SR Seminars has rewritten the myth. Our programs, Sisyphus Rocks Business and Sisyphus Rocks Education, bring the spark of creativity, the ease of production, and the economy of efficiency back to the workplace. We can either become identified with the routine and the everydayness the sameness and the repetition of our work lives or we can step aside and re-engage the process. Stepping aside and re-engaging the process is what SR Seminars teaches you to do.
How Does Sisyphus Rock?
Let's return to the beginning. This work was originally for musicians, for performing artists. Exercises in directing attention, tuning the body, and learning rhythms and ensemble pieces, are basic to performing arts training. Well, you perform at work, too! In our Sisyphus Rocks seminars, we have adapted these exercises, and added more, to train you to perform more effectively at work. We bring our seminars to your workplace, where you step aside from your routines and lay your boulder to rest during a one- or two-day retreat. We work with you, the performer, to bring your work to life.
Why Should You Rock?
One of the greatest barriers to realizing individual potential and creative thinking is the disconnection between mental work and physical activity. Simply put, most of us have not cultivated a coordinated mind-body function. The exercises and activities offered through the Sisyphus Rocks programs are designed to reconnect and reconstruct the vital balance between your mind and your body. This individual balance is deeply connected to how we work and play together, building team strategies and group interaction. Without this balance, you are flying on one wing.
